Despite its gorgeous colors and comical face, this beautiful beetle is not well loved by orchard owners and gardeners. Females use their long snouts to bore holes into young stone fruits in the rose family, such as cherries, plums, and apricots. An egg is laid in each hole. After hatching, the larvae consume the fruit for several weeks. Each female can lay over a hundred eggs, and large populations can cause much damage.
