The tarantula hawk wasp female (genus Pepsis) scours the desert in search of prey for her young. These wasps are often huge, with many species having body lengths of about 2 inches, although some can be much larger. This female will fearlessly tackle a tarantula and paralyze it with her stinger before dragging it back to a burrow and laying a single egg on it.
