Also known as the desert blonde tarantula or Mexican blonde tarantula, Aphonopelma chalcodes is native to New Mexico, Arizona, and Mexico, and is especially common in the Sonoran desert. Females like this one can live up to 30 years — if they’re lucky. The desert is full of dangers like parasitic tarantula hawk wasps, which can strike from above. Blonde tarantulas burrow to stay safe while they’re not hunting or seeking mates.
This iron-on patch is approximately life-sized at 5 inches long. Featuring detailed embroidery and a merrowed edge, it makes a stunning statement piece for anyone who loves spiders or the southwestern deserts.
